Oahu, home to Hawaii's capital city Honolulu, offers a mix of stunning surf beaches and vibrant snorkeling spots. While there are many beaches on the Honolulu coastline, they are mainly for surfing and offer little for snorkelers. However, on the other parts of the island there are many colourful snorkeling spots.
Hanauma Bay, Oahu's most popular snorkeling spot, is located very near to the Honolulu CBD, and is accessible from the Kalanianaole Highway. Perfect for novice snorkelers, the bay offers a variety of almost a hundred of different types of fish, in water that ranges from waist deep to over 5 metres.
Makaha Beach, on the northwest side of Oahu, is another popular snorkelling spot, offering underwater caves, arches, and unique coral formations. An ideal spot for intermediate to advanced snorkelers, the beach is home to octopuses, green sea turtles, and occasionally manta rays.
