The Kona Coast offers the best snorkelling bays and beaches, with the clearest water and most impressive coral formations. There are several snorkeling spots around Hilo, however it's worth it to make the trip over to the island's other coast.
Kealakekua Bay, accessible by boat from the Kona Coast, is home to a massive underwater cliff and stunning coral formations, and is considered one of the world's best snorkeling spots. With over a hundred different types of fish on display, it's possible to see many fish native to Hawaii alone here. Another recommended snorkeling beach is the highly popular Kahaluu Beach, just five miles from Kona on Ali'i Drive.
